The Caring Relationship Inventory (CRI) measures the essential elements of caring (or love) in the two person relationship existing between a man and a woman. The Inventory consists of 83 items to which the examinee responds either true or false, first as applied to the other member of the couple and second as applied to the "ideal." Development of the Inventory was based on responses of criterion groups of successfully married couples, troubled couples in counseling and divorced individuals. The five elements of love and the two scales based on the concepts of Being and Deficiency love are:
