NEW NORMS NOW AVAILABLE
The new norms for the COPSystem are available. The data were gathered from January 2000 through June 2002 for a sample of 18,991 seventh through twelfth grade students. In addition to the high school sample, a sample of 1,898 college students were examined. In norming these assessments comparisons are made between gender, grade, and region. The regional tabulation of the data are shown in Table 1.

Northwest 1,915 1,860 3,775
Southeast 2,122 2,100 4,222
Southwest 1,120 1,136 2,256

Table 1.
Summary of Normative Data
by Region and Gender

The group comparisons for the COPS show that there was no difference between the five geographical regions that were compared but there were significant differences between the college sample and the high school sample.

Figure 1 shows the mean scores for both groups as a comparison. In addition to reporting scores separately by age based norms, there are still significant differences in the way males and females respond to the

COPS items, hence there are separate gender based norms which are also shown in Figure 1 for comparison.
With respect to the COPES, the norms reconfirmed the norms reported in the past. The norms for the CAPS will be updated and available in the summer. For those customers that use the
IRIS program there will be an update posted in early summer with the new norms and a faster print program. Please contact us or check our web site at www.edits.net for additional information.
