Revision of Guides
Continued

The new norms will be reflected in the Guides which will be available later this year. Data were collected for the high school norms between January 2000 and June 2002 from a sample of 18,991 seventh through twelfth grade students. A college sample of 1,898 students was gathered from data obtained between 1998 and 2002. These data showed some differences from normative samples gathered in the past. Table 1 provides further information about the composition of the most current sample.

Differences in the norms were reflected by a small increase in interest shown for both males and females in the Science, Professional; Business, Professional and Arts, Professional Career Clusters and a small dip in the Outdoor Cluster. For the COPS, male and female norms will remain separate because there is still a significant difference in the level of interest between males and females for some of the Career Clusters. Males show a higher interest in both the Technology, Professional and Technology,

Skilled occupations while females show a higher interest in the Service, Professional occupations. It is interesting to note that the difference between males and females is less with this norm group in the Service, Skilled occupations than the previous groups

The new Comprehensive Career Guides and Self-Interpretation Profile and Guides should be available in early summer. These Guides will offer the most current occupational information available and reflect the latest trends in the job market.
