FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
|
PROBLEM: IRIS takes a very long time to print my results.
SOLUTION: Check your IRIS version to be sure it's up to date. Our current version is 1.7.0. To check your version, go to HELP at the very top of your IRIS screen, and go down to ABOUT. You will see your IRIS version listed. If it is not current, please call or email our Technical Support Department for instructions on how to download a free update.
Call 800-416-1666 or email techsupport@edits.net.
PROBLEM: When you are ready to scan your COPSystem forms, you click SCAN and the scanner does not respond.
SOLUTION: Your scanner has not been configured to communicate with IRIS.
- Be sure your configuration sheet has been filled in correctly. The settings to bubble in are listed below. If you are using an OpScan® or iNSIGHT® Scanner by NCS Pearson, be sure to fill in the HOST PORT side of the configuration sheet as well as the MANDATORY GRIDS on the AUXILIARY PORT side. Scan the HOST PORT side first and then walk through the Utilities Menu again to scan the AUXILIARY PORT side. Now your scanner should be configured to "talk" with IRIS.
- If you are using an iNSIGHT® Scanner from NCS Pearson, be sure your scanner's connection to the PC is set to "RS-232." this setting is found in the Defaults submenu of your scanner. See page C-3 of your iNSIGHT® Operator's Manual for detailed instructions.
PROBLEM: IRIS returns an ILLEGAL DATA STREAM ERROR...while your COPSystem forms are being scanned.
SOLUTION: IRIS is not receiving the data that it expects. There are many possible causes for this error message:
- If you are using an iNSIGHT® or OpScan® scanner, make sure your scanner is configured for IMAGE MODE in the Defaults Menu. Hold down both buttons on your scanner, select Yes for BACKGROUND MENU, No for UTILITIES and Yes for DEFAULTS.
- Make sure all your forms have been filled out completely, with a # 2 pencil, and the marks are dark.
- Make sure you are scanning the forms in the proper order: COPS, CAPS then COPES.
- If this is the first time you have tried to scan COPSystem forms, be sure your scanner is PENCIL-READ ONLY. If your scanner has the ability to scan both pencil and ink, be sure it is configured in PENCIL mode. If your scanner has an INK READ HEAD or is in INK READ MODE, the COPS and CAPS FORMS will not scan correctly.
PROBLEM: You receive an "RS-232" error when trying to scan your COPSystem forms with your Scantron Scanner.
SOLUTION: The BAUD RATE set in IRIS does not match the maximum baud rate for your scanner. Only the "ES" series scanners, (Scanmark ES 2260) can run at 38,400. If you have a Scanmark 2000, 2100, 2250 or 2500, the maximum baud rate is 19,200. If you have any 8000 series scanner, they only run at a baud rate of 9600. In IRIS, go to SCAN ->SCANNER OPTIONS and set the BAUD RATE to the appropriate setting for your scanner. Make sure your SCANTRON COMMUNICATIONS CONFIGURATION SHEET is bubbled in with this same baud rate.
PROBLEM: You receive the error message, "The Communication Port you have selected failed to open. Please select another port or check your port connections."
SOLUTION: The COM Port you selected in IRIS under SCAN ->SCANNER OPTIONS is not available. Try to connect your scanner to the COM 1 port on the back of your PC. Most PC manufacturers now label the COM ports. If you are using a SERIAL-TO-USB adapter, be aware that IRIS does not support some of these adapters. Adapters made by KEYSPAN are currently NOT supported. Please contact the IRIS Technical Support staff if you are having an issue with your Serial-to-USB adapter.
PROBLEM: After printing your results, the printout states that a test is invalid. When viewing your results, you see question marks(?) instead of numerical results.
SOLUTION: There are a few reasons why your results will be invalid:
- The COPSystem norms require that you bubble in both the GENDER AND GRADE LEVEL on every COPS, CAPS and COPES form.
- Your COPSystem forms must be scanned in the correct order: COPS, CAPS then COPES.
- If you are using an iNSIGHT® Scanner from NCS Pearson, try calibrating your scanner. Enter the UTILITIES menu on your scanner and run 10 VALIDATION SHEETS through for both the top and bottom read heads. See Appendix A in your iNSIGHT® Operator's Manual for detailed instructions.
- Be sure to remove and manually score the CAPS MANUAL SPEED and DEXTERITY
(# 8) test before you begin scanning. Bubble in the score on the CAPS name page in the area titled DO NOT MARK HERE. If the forms are scanned out of order, you may receive a test invalid message and question marks when you view results.
- Check to make sure all questions on the COPS and COPES forms have been answered, and at least one question as been attempted on each of the eight CAPS subtests.
PROBLEM: You receive a message in the CAPS area of your printout stating, TEST INVALID: MISSING SUBTEST
SOLUTION: Check all your individual CAPS tests to make sure at least one item has been attempted. Be sure you have manually scored the MANUAL SPEED AND DEXTERITY (# 8) test and bubbled in the resulting score on the name page of the CAPS form in the space titled DO NOT MARK HERE.
PROBLEM: When you scan a set of COPSystem forms, IRIS creates three lines of data instead of just one. When you print your results, you receive one COPS, one CAPS and one COPES printout instead of one combined COPSystem report.
SOLUTION: With your file open, go to SCAN -> SELECT TEST and make sure COPSystem is the ONLY line with a check mark. For printing, click the PRINT button. Near the top of the PRINT OPTIONS box are two tabs: RANGE and TEST(S). Click on the TEST(S) tab and be sure that COPSystem is the ONLY line with a check mark. Now you will receive a combined COPSystem printout.
